Google My Business can now be updated from search and maps

What is Google my business?

Google My Business (GMB) is a useful online tool provide by Google that helps businesses to manage and improve their online presence. For example, we would use GMB to share any recent changes or news about our digital marketing agency. You can also upload photos – i.e. things like industry events, awards nights or office space.

It’s a way of sharing your brand story and providing search engine users with the important or most up-to-date information about your company. Customers can easily connect with you by calling, messaging or leaving reviews. Once you verify your business – you can start using the tool for free to help drive customer engagement on Google.

What’s changing?

You will now be able to update your Google My Business listings directly from search results and Google Maps. Google have made the change so that businesses can quickly and easily update their GMB information without having to log-in to their account.

As well as being able to edit your profile information, you will now also be able to do the following through Search and Maps:

  • Create new posts
  • Reply to customer reviews
  • Add a new photo

How to Edit Google My Business Listings Through Search & Maps

First of all, make sure you’re signed in to the Google account that you used to verify your business when setting up your GMB. If you are using the right Google account then you can easily make edits to your GMB listing from either search results or Maps.

If you’re on Google Maps, simply tap your profile picture on the top right corner of the mobile app and click “Your Business Profile”. You will then have access to your profile management tools.

When using Google Search, you can just search for your business to start making the relevant changes. You can find your business by searching for your site or company name, or just using the query “my business”.

What other new Google My Business tools are there?

Google is going to be rolling out more tools in Maps and Search. They will be designed to help businesses know more about their digital marketing performance and how to improve their online presence.

One change we’re aware of now is the performance page revamp. Going forward, you will see be able to see a new performance page that contains customer interaction insights. According to Google – the page will be updated every month:

“All of these features will be available on an upgraded merchant interface that will offer helpful recommendations about how you can improve your Google presence”
