New Google Search Console Insights for content creators

Google now provide a new experience called Search Console Insights.  It is aimed towards site owners and content creators, so that they can access data to vastly improve their on-site content. The tool is currently only being tested by select publishers and content creators.

Google say the new tool will provide greater insight than the regular version of Search Console. Site owners and publishers can use the experience to reflect on their own content and ensure it is resonating as much as possible with their target audience.

The tool contains useful data from both Search Console and Google Analytics. The data is designed to assist site owners with making well informed decisions around their content. Google provide the following description:

“Search Console Insights is a new experience tailored for content creators and publishers and can help them understand how audiences discover their site’s content and what resonates with their audiences. This new experience is powered by data from both Search Console and Google Analytics.”

How will Search Console Insights help to improve site content?

The data available in Search Console Insights will help users answer some common questions, such as:

  • What is your best performing content?
  • How do users discover your digital content in the first place?
  • What are your site’s top or trending queries on Google Search?
  • Which other sites and articles link to your on-site content?
  • Do you have any new links?
  • How is your new content performing?

Who has access to Search Console Insights currently?

We mentioned that the new tool is only available to select users at the moment. This is because it is currently being tested in a closed beta with a limited number of sites.

Although the amount of site owners who can access Search Console Insights is limited at the moment – Google hopes to share it with more users soon. If you haven’t already been notified to take part in the beta test – then it means there is currently no way to sign up for the beta.

How can you access the tool?

If you already have access to Search Console Insights as a beta user, you can use the tool by following the link sent to you in your official on-boarding email. Or, you can just search for “search console insights” on Google.

If you’ve opted out of receiving emails from Google, you can still check whether your site is part of the closed beta. This works by clicking the “Search Console in search results” feature.

To access this feature, do a Google search for a query that you know your site ranks for. You should then see a result at the top of the page titled “Search performance for this query”. For beta users, this result will also be an entry point to Search Console Insights.

Google encourages Beta testers to share any feedback that can help optimise future versions of the tool.
